Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

What Is OP?

The idea behind our intensive outpatient program is you shouldn’t have to wait a long time to achieve a sober and healthy lifestyle. While inpatient services are available, they often have long waiting lists, or more expensive, and require an extended break from your life. Oftentimes, our intensive outpatient programs are able to ensure a more prompt start date, are less money out of your pocket, and give you the flexibility to reside in your home. We recommend that individuals participate in therapy for at least 90 days to ensure a sustainable recovery.

Individuals may begin in an IOP and then transition to less intensive outpatient treatment after 30–60 days.

Program Overview

For many people in Palm Beach, inpatient care in a hospital, clinic, rehab, or other facility can be challenging as people often have family or work commitments that prevent them from entering full time care. If someone is in this spot it is recommended they join an intensive outpatient program. They still get intensive treatment but they are able to reside at home.

Intensive Outpatient Therapy Key Takeaways

  • Intensive outpatient programs will be personalized so will vary from person to person, but will generally consist of 10-16 hours of group and individual therapy each week.
  • These sessions usually occur on-site at North Palm Beach Recovery Center.
  • Again, programs are tailored to the individual but expect to visit the facility three to four times per week.
  • Please keep in mind an IOP provides a higher level of care than standard outpatient programs, and although you are able to reside at home, this means a more structured treatment. For those juggling career and family life as well, we suggest comparing IOP and our standard Out Patient Program

Therapy for IOP

Group and individual therapy are at the core of most IOPs. Studies show group participation and individual therapy is extremely effective in treating addiction.Group therapy offers clients the chance to enhance their communication skills and provides a new resource for socialization.

Individual Therapy

  • Individual therapy focuses on the pressing problems caused by clients substance abuse and their efforts to remain abstinent.
  • Individual therapy sessions are part of most IOPs and will usually be scheduled on at least a weekly basis, if not more often, especially early in treatment.
  • Each client is assigned a therapist who will endeavor to establish a close, honest relationship based on mutual trust and commitment to recovery.

Group Therapy

  • It gives participants access to an environment where people in similar situations provide support, comfort, and honest feedback.
  • It provides a forum for therapists and group leaders to pass on important information, teach new skills, and guide clients.
  • Skills-development is a major part of group therapy. The amount that can be learned by the therapist and active group members is infinite. These skills are designed to help clients during and after treatment with specific recovery and life skills.
